The Mark 4 LR/T tactical rifle scope from Leupold comes with features such as a rugged finish; impressive low light performance and clearness of sight that fully justify its price. The Leupold Mark 4 LR/T series has already been adapted US Army for the current M-24 Sniper System. However, even though it is originally a tactical scope, a Mark 4 can be used for hunting purposes also. In fact, it is very suitable for long range shootings in low light. Therefore, the Mark 4 LR/T is being promoted as a ‘dual-use’ scope, which offers some advantages or other for everybody.
All scopes in the Mark 4 range are around 13 inches long and have tube diameters of 30mm. Its body is made of solid 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, which does not distort the light that comes through it. All models have a beautiful but understated rugged matte black finish, which will make any rifle look impressive. The subdued finishing ensures that it is not noticed by your game while you are hunting. One feature, which will be particularly helpful for long-range shooters, is the finger-adjusted wind and elevation adjustments mechanism that turns with audible clicks.
Another interesting feature is that the scope is filled with Nitrogen gas and is completely sealed by a unique technology used by Leupold. This ensures that the scopes are completely waterproof and no moisture will ever deposit into them. You will be able to use them in any condition without the fear of encountering fogging problems.
Mark 4 comes with both fixed and adjustable optical magnification. The power can vary from 3.5-10X40 to 8.5-25X50. Also, there are various reticles to choose from, such as mil dot, tactical milling, duplex, illuminated, TMR and many more. Mil dot is by far the most popular choice, as it not only has the Duplex-like thick bars, but also small dots for even further accuracy. Also the lens of a Mark 4 has a Multi-coat 4 that ensures perfect optical clarity in all weather conditions. It allows a high light penetration through the scope to reach your eye and an outstanding contrast of vision. The scope also comes with a parallax adjustment device on the side for focusing the parallax fast and easily.
A Leupold Mark 4 LR/T rifle scope may cost you anything between $1000 and $2000. It may seem a bit more expensive compared to some other scopes. However, if you look carefully at the impressive list of the features it has, you should be persuaded that this is exactly the thing that you need for your rifle. Remember, it also comes with a life-long guarantee from Leupold, which is one of the most trusted names in the world of optics and tactical rifle scopes.

Nightforce NXS 12-42×56mm Tactical Rifle Scope Review

A serious tactical scope- that’s the characteristic given to the Nightforce NXS 12-42x56 riflescope and is used by a serious target shooter. This scope is physically large with a 30mm main tube and a 56mm objective lens and is not in the lightweight category. With the sunshade attached, you would end up with a 16.125” long scope that weighs 34 ounces. The riflescope comes with a windage and elevation adjustments knobs that are large, providing for more convenient fingertip adjustments. The NXS 12-42x56 also features a side mounted parallax correction knob and one disadvantage is that it has less adjustment, but don’t fret as this is easily compensated with the 20 MOA mount rail.
Shooters who have used it will tell you that the scope is constructed with durability and reliability, which is an essential characteristic for using in all conditions. Nightforce has proven its ruggedness and precision optics by producing that are high in standards in these two areas. The scopes tube walls are built with aircraft-grade aluminum alloy and are three times thicker and most other scopes, making it less prone to stress, call for greater stability and has an provides an incredible shield for the optics inside. Also, the NXS 12-42x56 is not extruded or formed like most other scopes.
Each of its air-to-glass surface is multi-coated to tolerances of 0.000005 inches and exceeds every Mil-Spec abrasion test. The benefit of this extreme care becomes apparent in low-light conditions. The NXS 12-42x56 riflescope lenses are matched and aligned by hand to make sure the scopes optimal performance. This method is known as optical indexing, which translates to the highest possible performance and resolution. Though time-consuming and highly labor intensive, the end result is well worth it.
The Nightforce is considered a class above the rest as there is one more final advantage apart from all that was said above. This is their Quality Assurance testing. Every Nightforce scope produced goes through a rigorous seventy-five step series of QA tests. When we say rigorous, we mean really heavy duty as their side impact tests would destroy most scopes in the market. This test is done by giving each scope a side impact at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock and must maintain 1/8 MOA or less track-out within 40 minutes of vertical adjustment after each series of impacts. After each scope passes all QA tests, it is given a green tag that is initialed by the NF technician.
These are the advantages and the features of the Nightforce NXS 12-42x56. Some of the other pertinent specifications for this one tough and rugged scope are the magnification which is 12-42x (8-32x) with an objective lens diameter of 56mm and the ocular lens diameter of 36mm. The main tube diameter is 30mm with an overall length of 16.1" (15.9"). This scope weighs in at 34 ounces. The eye relief for this scope is 3.8" with and internal adjustment range of 45 MOA elevation, 35 MOA windage (65 MOA elevation, 45 MOA windage) and click value of 25 MOA. The reticles are in-house made NP reticles, CH-1, CH-2, CH-3, MLR, Mil-Dot.
In the field, the NXS 12-42x56 is one step ahead and does extremely well in competitive shooting. The windage and elevation adjustments are extremely quick, reliable and efficient. Whatever type of reticle you use, it is etched on compound optical glass. This insures a clear reticle in your field of view, with no distortion at maximum magnification. There will be an internal lighting source, which is an added bonus and is used to illuminate the reticle against the target under low light and low contrast conditions. The illumination is adjustable to suit individual preferences. For conclusion, this is considered the standard by which all other target scopes are judged.
